I am a painter but interested in trying sculpture, which I have never worked in. Are beginners okay?

Yes, MassArt New England welcomes participants of all levels. Classes are kept small so instructors are able to work with students individually. If you need assistance in deciding which class makes the best sense for you please contact us.

What are lodgings like?

Many participants choose to stay on campus. The dorm rooms are in air conditioned suites with simply furnished rooms: a bed (linens are provided) and desk. Before you arrive we send a packet of information which includes a list of things you need or may wish to have for your stay (desk lamp, all toiletries, hangers, multi-strip electric cords, etc.). Most participants choose single rooms; bathrooms in the suites are shared by three to four participants.

Meals may be purchased at the cafeteria with cash. All participants receive Sunday night dinner as part of the program. The cafeteria is all-you-can-eat style, with a variety of options. The area around MassArt also has several options for meals.

I am in my mid-forties; will I be the oldest person there? What is the average age?

No, you will certainly not be the oldest person there. The average MassArt New England participant is between 35 and 50, with some people in their early 20s (often between undergraduate and graduate school) and some people well into senior years.

The class I am interested in is full. How does it work if I put my name on a waiting list?

If someone drops, the first person on the list will be emailed and asked to register within 48 hours if they want the class. If that person does not want the next person will be contacted, and so on. Putting your name on a waiting list does not obligate you to take the class if a space becomes available.
